[ Story ]
A documentary about the textile industry town of Gamagori situated on Mikawa Bay in Aichi Prefecture. The director is Iwama Gen, who made his debut with The Past Is Always New, the Future Always Nostalgic: Photographer Daido Moriyama.
The Mikawa region was where cotton was first brought to Japan 1,200 years ago. After the war, amid clothing shortages, there was an unprecedented boom where whatever was woven sold like hotcakes. However, that former vitality has faded, and the sound of the looms is no longer heard. Is there any hope to be found in this city where people seem to have given up?
