A period drama depicting the rise of O-Ei, daughter and apprentice of Katsushika Hokusai, Japan's foremost ukiyo-e artist, as she ascends to prominence as a painter. The film was directed and written by Omori Tatsushi, who has also worked on films such as Every Day a Good Day and Under the Stars
O-Ei (Nagasawa Masami), divorces her husband, an artist, and returns to live with her father Hokusai (Nagase Masatoshi). They begin living together in a dilapidated tenement house, but she soon begins to display her inherited talent. O-Ei, given the name "Katsushika Oi," is known through the ages as an ukiyo-e artist.
