[ Story ]
Based on a hugely popular manga which sold over 1 million copies (in total for a 4-volume book). It struck a chord among people who don't usually read manga as well as women. 53 companies scrambled over the movie rights for this adaptation.
One in a thousand youths is forced to die by the government as the "foundation of prosperity". Fujimoto Kengo (Matsuda Shota) is a civil servant who works at the Ministry of Welfare and Health. His job is to deliver an advance notice of death, an "ikigami", which is issued by the government. Tanabe Tsubasa (Kanai Yuta) has been performing as a street musician, and has just made a major-label debut. Takizawa Kazuko (Fubuki Jun), a female member of the Diet, uses her son, Naoki (Sano Kazuma), to further her election campaign when an "ikigami" arrives for him. Out of hatred of his mother, Naoki uses his remaining time to take revenge on her. Iizuka Satoshi (Yamada Takayuki) is involved in blackmail in order to support his life with his blind sister. When he receives the notice he makes arrangements to have his corneas transplanted to his sister. Witnessing the last sparks of these three people's lives, Fujimoto feels troubled with internal conflicts.
