[ Story ]
Mikami Junichi (Sorimachi Takashi) is serving a murder sentence after accidentally killing a person during a fight. After being released, he is asked by prison guard Nango Shoji (Yamazaki Tsutomu) to join the investigation to exonerate a wrongfully convicted killer named Kihara who has been sentenced to death. Kihara has not been able to deny his guilt since he lost his memory in a car accident during the time the murder took place. Following Kihara's very limited memory that he was climbing stairs around the time of the homicide, Junichi and Shoji head to the murder scene and look for the steps. Finally, they locate the stairs and find an axe there. From the axe, Junichi's fingerprints are lifted. The area turns out to be the hometown of the victim Junichi killed in the fight. The victim's father forged evidence as his revenge against Junichi. Later, a new suspect's name comes up from the victim's bankbook. It's discovered that the suspect had been blackmailed, and now Kihara is saved from execution.
