[ Story ]

Based on a manga of the same title, written by Sakata Nobuhiro, drawn by Nakahara Yu, and serialized for as long as nine years with legendary popularity. This has been adapted to a film by Furumaya Tomoyuki, who excels at adolescent movies such as Robot Contest. Extensive location shooting on Iki island and in Nagasaki city, where the story takes place, has captured beautiful scenery and the excitement of Ekiden, the road relay race.
An elementary school girl, Naoko, comes to the island to recuperate from asthma. When she accidentally falls into the sea, she is rescued by Yusuke's (Miura Haruma) father, but he drowns in the process. When Naoko (Ueno Juri) is at high school, she meets Yusuke again by chance at an athletic competition. Yusuke is now a star runner in the world of high school athletics. The coach of the club, Nishiura (Shofukutei Tsurube), who has been like Yusuke's father, learns the circumstances between the two, and brings Naoko to the summer training camp as an assistant as they train to represent the prefecture at the high school road relay race. Yusuke wants to become a road relay race runner like his father, Nishiura suffers from an illness, some club members are on the blink of dropping out of the demanding training, and then there is Naoko. Various emotions of each person bring the road relay race to a moving finale.
