[ Story ]
A documentary-like drama that asks the question of true dietary education, based on a true story that took place at an elementary school in Osaka in 1990. Double winner at the 2008 Tokyo International Film Festival, of the Audience Award in the Competition section and the TOYOTA Earth Grand Prix.
In April, a piglet is brought into an elementary school class room. It is the action of a rookie teacher, Hoshi (Tsumabuki Satoshi), who wishes to teach children about life through looking after the piglet. The bewildered principal of the school (Harada Mieko) and the vice principal (Osugi Ren) hesitantly give their go-ahead to the plan. The children of Hoshi's class, the 6th grade class 2, build a shed for the piglet, name it P-chan, and take turns to look after it. Despite the mayhem P-chan repeatedly causes, the children love P-chan more with each passing day. The months go by, and their graduation day approaches. Children discuss the treatment of the piglet. Various suggestions are made, including passing it down to the lower grade so that they can continue looking after it. In the final ballot, however, Hoshi and the children reach a conclusion to "eat P-chan".
