A human drama which painstakingly portrays the process where the younger generation, who are avoiding living in earnest, and the older generation with an opposite way of life gradually close the gap to share the same feelings. The director, Ikeda Chihiro, is a newcomer to watch, who has been invited to the Cinefondation at the 2003 Cannes International Film Festival.
Nogami Takashi (Nishijima Hidetoshi), a corporate employee, decides to sell the land of his grandfather (Takahashi Masaya) to pay off the debt of his father. On the land is his grandfather's house as well as an old apartment block which is registered in the name of Fujiko (Kagawa Kyoko) who runs a small bar. Grandfather, being a man of few words, makes no comment about the sale of the land, nonetheless, Misaki Tetsu (Kase Ryo), Nogami's colleague who quit his job, and Toyoshima Ryoko (Takehana Azusa), a woman Nogami met on an arranged marriage meeting, come to live in the apartments. On a night when the grandfather and Fujiko are away on a hot spring trip, a typhoon hits the area, blowing out a window of one of the apartments. Inside, Nogami and his friends find an old chest of drawers. It was a gift from grandfather's younger brother to his fiancée, Fujiko, before going to war. There was a kimono inside, which was a gift from the grandfather. Having realized how the grandfather felt, Nogami decides against the sale of the land.
