An animation by Oshii Mamoru of Ghost in the Shell, four years since his last animation, Innocence<. Based on the popular novel series by Mori Hiroshi, Ito Chihiro of Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World wrote the screenplay. Strong actors and actresses, including Kikuchi Rinko, Kase Ryo, Tanihara Shosuke and Kuriyama Chiaki, breathed life into the movie. A story of never ending love, life and death is repeated between the earth and the sky. An official selection of the Competition section at the 65th Venice International Film Festival. The film won three awards including the Critic Award at the International Film Festival of Catalonia in Sitges.
In the world where perfect peace has been attained, adults have created ‘war as entertainment'. The war is fought by children called ‘Kildren' who never age into adulthood and live in the state of eternal adolescence, unless they are killed in the sky. The story begins when a pilot, Kannami Yuichi, arrives at his newly assigned airbase. He is gradually attracted to the base commander, Kusanagi Suito, who is also a Kildren herself and behaves as if she has been waiting for Yuichi. When the secret of his fighter jet's previous pilot is revealed, Yuichi also realizes his fate.
