[ Story ]

The first time in history that Dreamworks (A.I., Shrek) obtained the distribution rights to a Japanese film. The director is Kon Satoshi (Perfect Blue).
The studios of a former major film company are being torn down. Tachibana, who works for a TV production company, plans a documentary program on actress Fujiwara Chiyoko, who brought in a lot of money during the golden age of this company. Tachibana visits Chiyoko, who lives deep in the mountains, far away from human habitation. She starts to talk about the ups and downs of her life. When she is scouted as a movie actress, Chiyoko is hesitant to give a reply. On her way home, she helps out a painter who is chased by police, and she feels some sort of affection for him. The following day he is no longer to be seen, and Chiyoko makes up her mind to become an actress in order to head for Manchuria in pursuit of him. She continues to chase after the man of her destiny, switching back and forth between future and past, while reality and movie fiction get intermingled. After she finishes her story, Chiyoko suddenly collapses and is taken to the hospital. Though she realizes that death is near, Chiyoko keeps smiling, fond of the image of herself in continuous pursuit of the man she loves.
