[ Story ]

This first feature by Manda Kunitoshi won both the Grand Rail d'Or and the Future Talent Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at Cannes 2001. Closely woven dialogue succeeds in presenting a sense of friction arising between the world and Mitsuko (Moriguchi Yoko).
Mitsuko is a woman who poses fundamental questions about the masculine principle unconsciously embraced by Japanese society. A plain clerk in the public sector, she meets Katsuno (Nakamura Toru), an entrepreneur who lives in the glamorous and dramatic business world of ups and downs. The two quickly become intimate. Katsuno wants to pull Mitsuko into his world, but Mitsuko finds it a burden. She then becomes acquainted with Shimokawa (Matsuoka Shunsuke), a young man who lives a carefree life working part time. She is drawn to his unpretentious and modest lifestyle. Meanwhile, Shimokawa, perhaps out of a sense of rivalry to Katsuno, now wants to move up the social ladder from his blithe existence. Mitsuko presses Shimokawa and questions why his life must change.
