[ Story ]
Miike Takashi once worked as assistant director to Imamura Shohei and Onchi Hideo. Since his debut in 1995, he has continued to shoot films at an astonishingly high pace, demonstrating his skills, regardless of genre, with films like Dead or Alive and Ichi the Killer. Now he brings us a serious period drama.
Eiji (Fujiwara Tatsuya) and Sabu (Tsumabuki Satoshi) are of the same age, and have been working together as live-in mounting craftsmen since they were kids. One day, Eiji is falsely charged with theft, and disappears. Sabu goes looking for him. Eiji is made to do forced labor in a work camp on the isle of Ishikawa. He distrusts people and keeps his feelings to himself. Even when Sabu discovers his whereabouts, Eiji hurls cold words at him. However, spurred by the people in the camp, Eiji opens up his heart bit by bit. At that moment, the island is hit by a typhoon. The laborers are released for seven days in order to find shelter, but Eiji says he will protect the camp together with the government officials, and gathers companions. Thanks to Eiji's efforts, the typhoon somehow passes, and Eiji finally returns to the regular world, where he is warmly welcomed by Sabu.
