[ Story ]
Comedian, TV writer and actor Kimura Yuichi stars in and makes his feature film directing debut with this suspense-drama that draws on a real incident that took place in Yamanashi prefecture after WWII. The humorously satirical story follows the impoverished residents of a small village as they work together to print counterfeit money. Mukai Kosuke (Linda Linda Linda) and Izuchi Kishu (Lazarus) cowrote the skillfully-paced original screenplay with input from Kimura.
1950. Kageko (Baisho Mitsuko) is a teacher in a mountain village that produces 'washi' (Japanese paper). One day, a blackmarket broker named Otsu (Itakura Toshiyuki) who Kageko taught as a child pays a visit. Kageko is shocked when he proposes they print counterfeit 1,000 yen bills. Not wanting to engage in criminal activity she rejects his offer, but as she considers her mentally challenged son Tetsuya (Aoki Munetaka) and the struggles of the village residents, Kageko gradually changes her mind. Village notable Toura (Danta Yasunori) is finally able to persuade Kageko to take part in the scheme. The whole community gets involved in raising money for the necessary printing press, and the counterfeiting begins.
