[ Story ]

Masashi (Iju Tomoya) is taken by his mother, Kazue (Tsumiki Miho), to visit her hometown on a small island in Okinawa. There they hear a mysterious noise emanating from a place near the sea where the bodies of the dead are exposed to the elements. It is the sound of the wind whistling through holes in the skull of a dead Kamikaze pilot, called "Nakiunkami" by the local residents. One day Masashi sets off on a fishing expedition with his new friend Akira and some other island kids, and as a result of their mischief, the sound of the Nakiunkami ceases to be heard. Meanwhile, the elderly Shiho (Kato Haruko) comes to the island in search of her former lover, a Kamikaze pilot. Akira's grandfather, Seikichi (Uema Muneo), knows that the man for whom she searches is the Nakiunkami, but keeps the secret from her. Seikichi takes a fountain pen belonging to the pilot that he had stolen years ago and buries it next to his remains.
Higashi Yoichi (Village of Dreams, My Grandpa) directs a screenplay by Okinawan writer and Akutagawa Prize winner, Medoruma Shun. Winner of the Innovation Award at the 2004 Montreal World Film Festival.
