[ Story ]
Against the backdrop of the tumultuous Showa era, this film depicts the bonds that joined two actors over the course of 80 years as they devote their lives to the dedicatory "village kabuki" festival in their rural village. This beautifully scenic film set in the Shinshu region features fabulous performance from Kataoka Takataro and Kataoka Ainosuke in onnayaku, the female impersonator role and tachiyaku, the adult male role, roles which are key in the Kamigata school of Kabuki. In Showa year 10 (1935), a boy, Hanji (Takahashi Taira), sees a village kabuki performance for the first time and is intoxicated by the dancing of Yukio (Ooshima Sora). Eventually, he will come to dance with him on the same stage. They soon grow up to face a tumultuous age riven apart by war and their destinies are set to lead them both down a cruel path.
