[ Story ]

A historical drama on the life of Nakamura Hanjiro, later known as Kirino Toshiaki, a samurai from Satsuma who played a part in the Meiji Restoration alongside Saigo Takamori and others. Lead actor Enoki Takaaki, born in Kagoshima and trained in traditional martial arts, puts together a real life depiction of his local hero, after 13 years of planning. The film is set during the turmoil of the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate. On hearing that the outstanding and distinguished Saigo Kichinosuke (Tanaka Seiji) is heading for the capital, Nakamura Hanjiro (Enoki), a poor Satsuma samurai of low rank, begs to go with him. Hanjiro soon earns Saigo's trust with his natural generosity and exceptional swordsmanship.
