A Studio Ghibli film devised and written by Miyazaki Hayao, and directed by his son Miyazaki Goro who also helmed TALES FROM EARTHSEA. Set in Yokohama in the 1960s, it nostalgically depicts the youthful days of two generations of a family. sixteen-year-old girl Umi (voice: Nagasawa Masami), who helps run a lodging house called Kokuriko-so, falls in love with a seventeen-year-old high school student named Shun (voice: Okada Junichi), but he is hiding a secret about his parentage. The earnest duo begin to unravel the truth about their parents' youth.
