A third-rate lawyer and a ghost create a courtroom commotion in this suspense-laden comedy. It is the fifth directorial effort of Mitani Koki, a popular scriptwriter with an extensive theatrical background, and its star-studded cast helped it to a box office haul of 500 million yen in only its first two days in release. Emi (Fukatsu Eri), a mousy lawyer, takes on the defense of a man named Yabe (KAN) who has been charged with the murder of his wife. Yabe says he was rendered unable to move by a ghost while staying at an inn on the night of the murder, so Emi comes up with an outlandish plan to corroborate his claim: call the ghost who haunted him, a fallen samurai named Rokubei (Nishida Toshiyuki), to the stand as a witness.
