[ Story ]
The folk performing art "oni kenbai," or devil's sword dance, which has been handed down over 1,300 years in the rural areas of Iwate Prefecture's Kitakami City. Documentary about this dance, which is a national Important Intangible Folk Property, and the interactions amongst local people.
Dancers wear unusually shaped masks and stomp the earth, and the dance includes requiems and prayers. The spirit of this devil's swords dance is presented through rehearsals and a special performance at the funeral for a great master. Director Miyake Nagaru undertook the lengthy shoot on his own, and created this documentary about Japanese traditional performing arts as a follow-up to {Tokijima Sosakunoh toki no tanjo}.
