August 11, 2011, five months following the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. As both a memorial and prayer for recovery, firework displays were held simultaneously along the Tohoku region's Pacific coastline at ten locations where people were swallowed up by the tsunami. This documentary delves into the project, called LIGHT UP NIPPON.
Narration by actress Kuroki Hitomi brings into sharp relief how the passion of Takada Yoshitake, a company employee who lives in Tokyo, mobilized other people. The music that blends with the beautiful footage of fireworks is handled by Sakamoto Ryuichi, recipient of an Academy Award for Best Original Score.
