Miyawaki, the world-renowned charismatic plant ecology scholar, beloved by those who know him. Currently 84 years old, he has planted trees at over 1,700 sites within Japan and abroad. However, he lives in straightened circumstances as he struggles to scrape together the necessary funds for research and forestation. Even so, he devotes himself body and soul to "forest making," with the belief that protecting forests means protecting the earth.
