[ Story ]

Director Suzuki Seijun was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 58th Venice International Film Festival.
The Lord of Garasa Castle, Azuchi Momoyama (Hira Mikijiro), becomes depressed when he hears a prophecy that his son, Amechiyo (Odagiri Joe) will be even more beautiful than him. Momoyama is tormented by his own vanity and decides to banish Amechiyo to Mount Kairasu from which nobody has ever returned alive. However, Amechiyo succeeds in outwitting his father when he meets the ruler of Racoon Land, Princess Racoon (Zhang Ziyi). They fall instantly in love, but Momoyama attacks and injures the Princess. The only way to save her life is to get her to listen to the voice of the Paradise Frog which lives in Mount Kairasu. Amechiyo heads off to the mountain alone. When the Princess is cured, Amechiyo visits Momoyama to exact his revenge. However, Amechiyo is killed and Princess Raccoon takes her own life to follow her lover to his grave.
