A theatrical version of a television documentary about deaf victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Shot over a twelve-month period by director Imamura Ayako who is also hearing-impaired, it reveals the little-known hardships that deaf people face.
The Kikuchis could not hear the tsunami warnings, but eventually managed to evacuate after a neighbor informed them of the impending danger. The Sais, who run a barbershop, could not hear the warning broadcasts either and were unaware of the need to flee to safety. Their stories raise concerns about the unequal dissemination of life-saving information.
