[ Story ]
A documentary about Sato Yasushi, the author of the short story collection on which Sketches of Kaitan City was based. Dramatic recreations help tell the story of this unfortunate writer who never won the Akutagawa Prize for literature despite numerous nominations, and eventually took his own life. Directed by Inazuka Hidetaka
(Chronicles From the Heartland : Fukushima 2011).
In 1982, Sato was informed that he had missed out on the Akutagawa Prize, as his sickly mother worried about him. What did he attempt to convey and leave behind in his writings, while dealing with the despair he felt at constantly toiling away in obscurity? The journey of a novelist's soul comes to light.
