Drama about the life of agriculturalist Inazuka Gonjiro, whose Norin 10 strain of wheat formed the basis for the variety that averted a worldwide food crisis. Direction and screenplay by Nakadaitatsuya yakusya wo ikiru's Inazuka Hidetaka, who is also a relative of Gonjiro.
Inazuka (Nakadai Tatsuya) was born in the late Meiji period as the eldest son of an impoverished farming family in Toyama, and his love of learning led him to pursue plant breeding. He helped breed rice (Rikuu 132), and from the early Showa period he worked on boosting wheat yields. The Great Famine of Northern Japan gave him a sense of urgency, and in the autumn of 1935 he completed the wheat strain called Norin 10.
