[ Story ]

Minako (Tanaka Yuko) is an unmarried, fifty year old woman who leads a quiet life, working at the check-out counter in the supermarket and delivering milk to local residents. At night, she finds solace in novels, her only escape from her dreary, daily existence. Takanashi Keita (Kishibe Ittoku) is a married man who works for the local government in the same town. Keita's wife Yoko (Nishina Akiko) is dying of cancer and he is nursing her through the final stages of her illness. Then one day, Minako delivers milk to Keita's house and recognizes him as her first love from high school. Something happened in high school to drive them apart, but Minako has never forgotten Keita and he still carries a torch for her. When Yoko finds out why Keita has suddenly become so fond of milk, she makes a surprising announcement. She asks Minako to live with her husband and take care of him after she dies. Minako and Keita enjoy a brief period of happiness together, but further tragedy intervenes, taking Keita's life.
This is the second film by the director of Dokuritsu Shonen Gasshodan (Boy's Choir), Ogata Akira.
