[ Story ]

A movie based on a concept by Shall We Dance? director Suo Masayuki that was twenty years in the making. It vividly depicts a young woman's struggle to become a maiko (apprentice geisha), with colorful visuals and song and dance routines.
Haruko (Kamishiraishi Mone) aspires to become a maiko, and makes her way to Shimohachiken, a geisha quarter in Kyoto. She is accepted for an apprenticeship through the auspices of Kyono (Hasegawa Hiroki), a linguistic scholar who is intrigued by her thick Kagoshima and Tsugaru dialect, and trains furiously to become a fully-fledged maiko.
