September 1890. The Turkish navy frigate Ertugrul has completed its goodwill voyage to Japan, but sinks in a typhoon on its journey home. Over 600 passengers were tossed into the ocean off Wakayama Prefecture, and the valiant rescue effort by locals including physician Tamura (Uchino Masaaki) saves 69 people. In 1985, Japanese nationals left behind in Iran during the Iran-Iraq War appeal to the Turkish government for help…
