In the aftermath of a great disaster, the anguish and rebirth of sisters deprived of their family by a tidal wave are depicted in this silent film. At the helm is Sakaguchi Katsumi, who has been highly praised at home and abroad for directing Walking with My Mother and Sleep among other films capturing people living in adversity.
Two sisters, ages 11 and 9, return to their village which has been buried under sand by a tidal wave. They locate their family members dragged off by the wave and in an attempt to rebuild their swept away home, repeatedly gather driftwood along the shore. When exhaustion compels them to sleep, they are visited upon by their deceased family.
