Watanabe Mamoru has shot over 200 pink films, dedicating the entirety of his directing career to the genre. In this third installment of a four-part documentary series, Watanabe talks about his own life. The director, Ikawa Koichiro, served as the screenwriter of Watanabe's films in his final years.
Watanabe actively made pink films, but was beset by fears he could not outdo his debut film, Abazure. In time, he hit upon a premise revolving around subjective (director-centric) and objective (audience-centric) filmmaking, and steadily produced masterpieces one after the other. He also recalls Wakamatsu Koji, Okishima Isao, Mukai Kan, Yamamoto Shinya, Komori Kiyoshi, among others.
