[ Story ]

While Shigetaka is abroad Ayako lives with her blind mother. She is idolized by young artists, among whom is Natsui, a promising cameraman.
Ayako persuades Natsui to marry Chikako, with whom she knows her husband has had an affair and because she is afraid of falling in love with him.
Ayako is shocked when Natsui announces that his marriage with Chikako is a failure and they want a divorce and sees Kuze who is separated from his wife for his advice. The friendship between Ayako and Kuze grows into love, and the two spend a night at a hot-spring resort as man and wife. But Ayako is conscience stricken and disappears.
Kuze, gives np his promising career, divorces his wife, and plans the rest of his life as a branch manager in a country town. Meanwhile, Chikako makes a fresh start in life and her thoughts are with Kuze whom she hopes to marry.
