Sakamoto, a young engineer, visits Hong Kong to see his friend, Katori, who shortly afterwards disappears. Disturbed, Sakamato begins searching for him.
In so doing he encounters a number of people, Li-Hwa, Katori's girl-friend, Detective Lu-Chee, and Japanese reporter Morigaki, all of whom advise him to stop looking for his friend and to leave the city. When he stays on, even stranger things begin happening - a phone call from someone who calls himself Gomez, the disappearance of Li-Hwa, and the appearance of a mysterious woman called Vera.
Eventually Sakamoto discovers the truth. Morigaki was a double agent, working for two opposing factions: a smuggling ring and an espionage group. Morigaki killed Katori when Katori discovered the true state of affairs.
It is arranged for Sakamoto to take Li-Hwa back with him to Japan, but he waits in vain at the airport for her. She does not appear and finally he leaves for home with mixed impressions of Hong Kong, and the memory of the girl he now loves.
