[ Story ]
Returning to his native village he finds that Harue, who has been waiting for him, is now claimed by the local boss to whom the girl's deceased father owed money.
Joji tries hard to pay Harue's debts but people are not sympathetic with a former convict.
He goes back to dice and swindling. He wins. But Harue's promise to wait for him until he has expiated his crime is always in his mind. He surrenders to the law, and Harue watches his forlorn figure as he walks towards his fate in the early morning light.
