Starring the screen idol Yujiro Ishihara, "Love and Death" based on the famous novel by Mushanokoji Saneatsu is the first Japanese film to be made on location in Europe.
Muraoka Yuji, an assistant professor, falls in love with beautiful Nonomura Hatsuko. Just after they become engaged Yuji learns that he has won first prize in a contest and that he is to go to Rome to receive the award.
However, although he cannot bear to leave Hatsuko and feels no attraction for Europe he starts out across the world ... and little does he realize what the faults have in store for him and his beloved.
