In this adaptation of Tanaka Keiichi's identically titled mystery novel, a protagonist with a gifted palate searches for the ultimate culinary flavor. It is directed by Takita Yojiro of Departures and stars Ninomiya Kazunari of Letters from Iwo Jima.
In 1930s Manchuria, there was a miraculous full course meal planned by the emperor's chef. Sasaki Mitsuru (Ninomiya) is a chef who has lost his passion for cooking despite possessing a gifted sense of taste which allows him to create any flavor. Now he is on the hunt for a recipe which has vanished into history.
