[ Story ]
A drama focusing on the World Heritage Site, Tomioka Silk Mill, and the dawn of Japan's silk industry legacy. Set in Gunma Prefecture during the early Meiji Era, the film depicts efforts of young women who supported the modernization of Japan.
In the sixth year of the Meiji Era, Yokota Ei (Mizushima Yu), the daughter of the mayor of Nagano Prefecture's Matsushiro Ward, sways her resistant father and joins the Tomioka Silk Mill as a factory girl. These women dream of learning technical skills, advancing to become first-class factory girls who wear a red sash cord to bind up their kimono sleeves, and returning to their hometowns. However, the rigid training of the French teacher and the hardships of silk manufacturing seem endless.
