[ Story ]
This is the first feature documentary film by veteran TV documentarian Ikeya Kaoru. Daughter from Yan'an is the crystallization of his years of activity in news gathering, starting with the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.
Under the Xia fang rustication movement initiated by Mao Tse-tung, Wang Luchang was sent to Yan'an. There, he fell in love with a girl and had a child, naming her Haixia. However, amid the unceasing whirlwind of the Cultural Revolution, their action was considered a sin. Afraid of being punished, they had a farmer look after Haixia and left for Beijing. Time goes by and Haixia herself becomes a mother. After 30 years, she sets off on a trip to look for her parents. She's fortunate enough to have a chance to meet only her father. At first, Wang Luchang rejects the opportunity to see his daughter, but their reunion is eventually realized with the great help of his comrades who had also joined the rustication program.
