Poet Kitahara Hakushu and musician Yamada Kosaku created numerous acclaimed nursery rhymes. This biographical drama warmly depicts anecdotes about the birth of their collaborations, starting with the song 'Konomichi' in the film's title. Director Sasabe Kiyoshi's Half a Confession won the Director of the Year and Picture of the Year awards at the Japan Academy Prize.
The year is Taisho 7 (1918). Children's author Suzuki Miekichi (Yanagisawa Shingo) introduces the free-spirited genius poet Kitahara Hakushu (Omori Nao) to Yamada Kosaku (AKIRA), an unassuming musician who is back from Germany. Suzuki proposes to the two that they create distinctively Japanese nursery rhymes, but things don't go as expected.
