Tokai Television, producer of Life is Fruity, spends nearly 40 years investigating the truth behind the Nabari Poison Wine incident for this documentary.
The Nabari Poison Wine incident occurred in 1961 in Mie Prefecture's Nabari City. Wine at a village social gathering is poisoned and five villagers die as a result. Okunishi Masaru is charged with the crime and despite his sentence changing from innocent to the death sentence, many questions remain unanswered. Okunishi continued to seek a retrial claiming his confession was coerced, but regretfully died while still in jail. The camera digs for the true motives of the villagers whose testimony changed repeatedly and the judiciary which stubbornly denied a retrial.
