Asada Tetsuya's novel "Mahjong Hourouki", which had been adapted to film by Wada Makoto in 1984, returns once again to the big screen audaciously reworked as a cynical comedy. At the helm is Shiraishi Kazuya who attracted domestic and international attention at film festivals with The Blood of Wolves.
Boyatetsu (Saito Takumi) time travels from 1945 to 2020 when World War III has broken out. He is taken aback by the downfall of Tokyo brought on by the inception of artificial intelligence, the low birth rate in tandem with an aging population, and the overly controlled society. However, being a virtuoso gambler Boyatetsu becomes embroiled in a fierce contest through unexpected circumstances.
