The posthumously released final film directed by Obayashi Nobuhiko, known for I Are You, You Am Me, who passed away in 2020. Set in Obayashi's hometown of Onomichi, the film uses multiple genres, from silent movies and talkies, to action and musicals to express the history of war.
Setouchi Cinema is a movie theater going out of business. Its final program will be an all-night showcase of Japanese war films. Mario (Atsugi Takuro), Hosuke (Hosoyamada Takahito), and Shigeru (Hosoda Yoshihiko) have come to watch the films, but are sucked into the world inside the movie screen by a flash of lightning which strikes the theater.
