The Aoba household consists of single mother Haruko (Nishida Naomi), her son Riku, Haruko's drinking buddy Meiko and Meiko's novelist boyfriend Sorao (Oshinari Shugo). One summer day, the daughter of Haruko's old friend Tomoko (Ichikawa Miwako) comes to stay with them so she can take summer school courses.
