Screenwriter Ito Chihiro spent 10 years writing the original novel, before adapting it for film herself. The film was produced by director Yukisada Isao and stars King Gnu band member Iguchi Satoru, whom the director had in mind when writing the screenplay.
Susume (Iguchi) is a dentist who falls in love with Miyako (Baba Fumika), who works at a massage parlor. Susume, who has trouble communicating well with others, is happy that she understands him. However, he worries that he does not understand the mysterious Miyako.
