Director Hayakawa Chie makes her feature debut with this controversial work depicting the Japanese society where "Plan 75", a system that gives the right to choose between life and death from the age of 75, is enforced. The film was entered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Caméra d'Or Special Mention.
78-year-old Michi (Baisho Chieko), who has lost her husband, is laid off from her job because of her advanced age, and begins to consider applying for Plan 75. Meanwhile, Hiromu (Isomura Hayato), a city hall employee who works at the Plan 75 application counter, begins to have strong doubts about this system.
