[ Story ]
Director Yoji Yamada, who has long depicted people living in Japan, tells a moving story that celebrates the joys of life in the ever-changing metropolis of Tokyo.
One day, a taxi driver, Koji Usami (Takuya Kimura) is assigned to take 85-year-old, Sumire Takano (Chieko Baisho), from Shibamata, Tokyo to a senior citizen's home in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture. On the way, Sumire asks Koji to make a few side trips. She gradually feels a sence of trust in him, and begins to talk about her own fierce past. This coincidental encounter will move their hearts and change their lives.
