[ Story ]
Mitsuwaka Yusaku's heartfelt documentary grabbed the top spot in Kinema Jumpo's Best Ten list for documentaries in 2022. Produced by Oshima Arata, who directed Why You Can't Be Prime Minister.
The "burakumin" cast was legally abolished in 1871, but the areas where they lived are still referred to as a "buraku" and discriminatory attitudes persist. The film sheds light on the obscured structures of discrimination through disentangling the context laden with the complexities of the historical discrimination.
