Director Shiota Akihiko's script for this comical drama depicts the profound appeal of Shunga, a popular pastime in the Edo period known as "Laughing Pictures". This is the first ever uncensored depiction of ukiyo-e shunga in a Japanese commercial film.
Haga Ichiro (Uchino Seiyô), a researcher who is known as "Shunga Sensei" (Shunga Teacher), adopted a reclusive lifestyle after his wife died, and devoted himself to researching this art form. Meanwhile, Haruno Yumiko (Kita Kana), who learns to appreciate shunga from Haga, is captivated by his profound charm and begins to fall in love with him.
