Coming-of-age animation film that marks the feature-film debut for traditional nihonga painter Shinomiya Yoshitoshi. Official selection for Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
The Obinata fireworks factory where Keitaro (Hagiwara Riku) grew up faces imminent demolition. Meanwhile, he struggles to complete the mythical "shuhari" firework envisioned by his vanished father. His childhood friend Kaoru (Furukawa Kotone) returns home from Tokyo as the summer draws to a close, and they find out from Keitaro's order brother Sentaro (Irino Miyu), who works at city hall, that the factory is slated for demolition the next day.
