[ Story ]

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 5th Dubai International Film Festival. A human drama which questions the importance of life and the meaning of living. Based on a short novel by Yoshimura Akira, Kadoi Hajime of The Corner of the Shelf brings to the screen a realistic depiction with his tension-packed direction.
Hirai Toru (Kobayashi Kaoru), a prison guard, meets Mika (Otsuka Nene), a widow and a single mother on an arranged marriage meeting. It works out well to the point that they discuss the wedding ceremony, but Hirai is unable to close the distance with her son, Tatsuya. It is at such a time when an execution order is signed for Kaneda Shinichi (Nishijima Hidetoshi), a death row inmate at the prison where Hirai works. Learning that a special one-week vacation is granted to the prison guard who assists in the execution as a "supporter", supporting the body from underneath, Hirai volunteers for the role as he has no holiday entitlement left, and he could do with the vacation to go on a trip with his fiancée and her son to bond with them. On the morning of the execution, Kaneda accepts his execution without ruckus. Hirai's wedding takes place that weekend as planned. The three go on a honeymoon to a hot spring, and they gradually become closer to one another.
