[ Story ]

An epic action film, adapted and directed by Sato Shimako of Tale of a Vampire, an Anglo-Japanese collaboration in 1992 which won the Avoriaz Award at the Tokyo International Fantastic Film Festival. Starring Kaneshiro Takeshi, a leading Asian actor of international caliber, who played Zhuge Liang in Red Cliff diptych, which was a blockbuster hit around the world.
Set in a fictional Japanese city of "Teito" in 1949. Having escaped the damage of the WW II, the wealth of the city is dominated by a small privileged group. During such time a master criminal causes a stir as he mysteriously steals works of art and antiques but only from the wealthy, and people call him K-20 (the Phantom Thief with Twenty Faces). One day, Endo Heikichi (Kaneshiro Takeshi), a circus acrobat, receives a request from a mystery man to take photos of the betrothal ceremony which takes place between Yoko (Matsu Takako), daughter of the Hashiba conglomerates and a master detective Akechi Kogoro (Nakamura Toru). The request, however, turns out to be a trap set by K-20. People believe that Heikichi is K-20 and now he is wanted by the police. Heikichi decides to capture K-20 by himself to prove his innocence.
