A manga artist, Asako (Koizumi Kyoko), is devastated by the death of her pet cat, Saba, which kept her company for many years, and as a result, she becomes unable to draw manga any longer. While Asako's assistant, Naomi (Ueno Juri), and others are concerned, Asako finds a kitten, which she names Gu Gu, in a pet shop in town and takes it home to live with her. One day Asako takes Gu Gu to a vet for a sterilization procedure, but Gu Gu runs away on the way there. This leads to her encounter with a mysterious young man, Sawamura (Kase Ryo), and a puppy love begins. Asako comes out of her slump and starts drawing manga again, but she suddenly collapses. At the hospital she meets Sawamura again, who works there as a doctor. Asako is diagnosed as suffering from ovarian cancer and is admitted to the hospital, where she becomes depressed due to side effects of the anti-cancer drugs. In a dream she meets Saba, who had died, and following that she recovers gradually and completes a new manga.
