Based on an autobiographical essay manga of the same title by Oshima Yumiko, a shining star in the girls manga world, about her days with her pet cats. Direction and screenplay by Inudo Isshin who won the Picture of the Year Award and the Director of the Year Award at the Japan Academy Prize for his Bizan – The Mountain of Mother's Love -. Music is by Hosono Haruomi, who continues to have a strong influence in the world of music after the band YMO was dissolved.
A manga artist, Asako (Koizumi Kyoko), is devastated by the death of her pet cat, Saba, which kept her company for many years, and as a result, she becomes unable to draw manga any longer. While Asako's assistant, Naomi (Ueno Juri), and others are concerned, Asako finds a kitten, which she names Gu Gu, in a pet shop in town and takes it home to live with her. One day Asako takes Gu Gu to a vet for a sterilization procedure, but Gu Gu runs away on the way there. This leads to her encounter with a mysterious young man, Sawamura (Kase Ryo), and a puppy love begins. Asako comes out of her slump and starts drawing manga again, but she suddenly collapses. At the hospital she meets Sawamura again, who works there as a doctor. Asako is diagnosed as suffering from ovarian cancer and is admitted to the hospital, where she becomes depressed due to side effects of the anti-cancer drugs. In a dream she meets Saba, who had died, and following that she recovers gradually and completes a new manga.
